Soh Clan Association believes that access to education is a right. No child should be denied education due to financial difficulties. To help students realise their fullest potential, Soh Clan Association offers eligible children of members our in-house scholarship and bursary.
Application Guidelines for Soh Clan Association Scholarship and Bursary
1. Objective
Reward outstanding academic performance and upright characters among members’ children of schooling age
Assist low-income families and help motivated and aspiring children of members to pursue their education
6. Selection Panel
Selection criteria are determined by Soh Clan Association Selection Panel. Decision of the Selection Panel are final. Disagreement from the applicants will not be entertained.
2. Eligibilities
Open to children of members studying at local Polytechnics, junior colleges, secondary schools and primary schools
Parents of applicants must not have any arrears in monthly donations; members must have joined the association for at least 3 months
Applicants can only apply for scholarship OR bursary. Concurrent application for both scholarship and bursary is not allowed
Incomplete applications or applications with incomplete documents will NOT be processed
7. Scholarship / Bursary Award Ceremony
The date and location of the award ceremony will be determined by the selection panel and all awardees will be notified in writing. Unless there are special reasons, awardees are required to attend the award ceremony in person to show respect, unless they submit a valid leave request in writing.
3. Academic Requirements For Scholarship Application
Primary 1 and 2 students can apply for the scholarship with the EDUSAVE CERTIFICATE OF LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT issued by the Ministry of Education and the People’s Association as proof of academic excellence
Students in Primary 3, 4 and 5 must have their conduct graded at either ‘A’ or ‘B’, the total average score for the academic year shall be at least 70 points
Students in Primary 6 must have their conduct graded at either ‘A’ or ‘B’, total PSLE scores shall not exceed 20 points for 4 subjects
Students in secondary levels must have their conduct graded at either ‘A’ or ‘B’, the total average score for the academic year shall be at least 70 points; the O-level examination result scores shall not exceed a total of 12 points for 5 subjects
N-level students must have their conduct graded at either ‘A’ or ‘B’, the total average score for the academic year shall be at least 70 points
Junior college students must have their conduct graded at either ‘A’ or ‘B’, shall score at least 2 ‘A’ and 2 ‘B’ or better for a total of 5 subjects
Polytechnic students must have their conducts graded at with ‘A’ or ‘B’, depending on their elected subjects, at the discretion of the selection panel
8. Quantum
The quantum of the scholarship and the bursary are the same:
For Primary School category, SGD300 each
For Secondary School category, SGD400 each
For Junior College and Polytechnic category, SGD600 each
4. Requirements For Bursary Application
Applicants must have passing academic results, a conduct grade of B or above, a total monthly household income not exceeding SGD 3500, or a per capita monthly income not exceeding SGD 850
9. Amendments
If there are any inadequacies in the above provisions, revisions can be proposed at the joint meeting of the Executive Supervisory Committee and Mutual Aid Council.
5. Supporting Documents For Application
Applicants are to attach the following supporting documents together with the online application form.
NRIC copies for all applicants
Parents’ payslips for bursary applicants. For applicants whose parents are self-employed, CPF statements are to be submitted
Copies of academic results from the school for the past one year. For students taking PSLE, N-Level and O-Level examinations, official results from PSLE, N-Level and O-Level are applicable
10. Execution
This application form was adopted at the 64th Joint Meeting of the Executive Supervisory Committee and the 47th Mutual Aid Council at its 6th meeting on November 25, 2021
